After rallying over 363 points during the day, the 30-share Sensex ended 70.21 points, or 0.17 per cent, higher at 40,356.69.
After opening on a positive note, the 30-share index turned choppy to trade 54.61 points, or 0.14 per cent, lower at 40,061.45.
The 30-share Sensex ended 229.02 points, or 0.57 per cent, lower at 40,116.06.
Financial markets will resume trading on Wednesday, November 13.
The 30-share index pared some losses to trade 4.57 points, or 0.01 per cent, lower at 40,319.04.
The 30-share Sensex briefly turned positive to hit a fresh intra-day high of 40,749.33
Top losers in the Sensex pack included Sun Pharma, HUL, Bharti Airtel, NTPC, PowerGrid and RIL, shedding up to 1.69 pc.
The 30-share index was trading 202.93 points, or 0.50 per cent, higher at 40,672.71.
The 30-share index rallied to trade 332.85 points, or 0.83 per cent, higher at 40,581.08 in afternoon session.
Tech Mahindra, Yes Bank, Infosys, Vedanta, M&M and L&T too fell up to 1.13 per cent.
