Czech car brand Skoda Auto on Tuesday introduced the Monte Carlo, a new edition of Rapid, priced at Rs 10.75 lakh to boost sales in Asia’s third biggest car market. The 2017 Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. This special variant of the Rapid is based on the car sold abroad.
The Skoda Rapid in India rivals the likes of the Honda City, the Volkswagen Vento, and Hyundai’s new Verna and the Maruti Ciaz. The City starts at Rs 8.46 lakh while the Verna is expected to cost around the same level. Vento starts at Rs 8.05 lakh and goes upto Rs 12.74 lakh while Maruti Ciaz starts at Rs 9.35 lakh.
This new sedan is positioned as a sporty variant of the Rapid, the most affordable product in the Skoda India line-up. While the base variant is the 1.6 litre petrol, the top-end version 1.5 diesel automatic costs Rs 13.57 lakh. Skoda has launched four variants of the Monte Carlo.
“The new Monte Carlo is an integral part of our model offensive strategy in India,” Ashutosh Dixit, director, sales, service and marketing at Skoda Auto India, said.
The Monte Carlo offers a compelling combination of the brand’s emotional design, exquisite interiors, and a host of convenience features, leading safety as well as intelligent connectivity features, he said. The Monte Carlo is positioned at the top end of the segment, Dixit pointed out.
As part of the Monte Carlo specification, the sedan sports an all-black front grille, 16” dual tone black alloy wheels, black roof, black tailgate spoiler and black grained diffuser on the exterior.
Inside, it gets a sporty new flat bottom steering wheel with leather wrapping and red stitching, red and black leatherette seats and stainless steel foot pedals and all black dashboard.
It also gets custom door sills and floor mats. Infotainment duties on the Rapid Monte Carlo are being carried by a 6.5-inch system with SmartLink and Mirrorlink, combined with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The car gets engines borrowed from the Rapid. The 1.5 litre TDI that produces a peak power of 110PS and a torque output of 250 Nm while delivering fuel efficiency of 21.72 kmpl (DSG) and 21.13 kmpl (manual transmission).
