Since 2017, the import of duty-free gold has been going up. As per WTO norms, India cannot apply duties on select products under free trade agreement.

“Japan has been looking at countries like Vietnam and Philippines to fill the labour gap. But in recent times, there has been some improvement in the bilateral relations between Japan and India and now the East Asian country is viewing us as a potential source market for qualified workers,” said Dr S. The country also has shortage of over 1.7 lakh IT engineers. Qualified aspirants are required to have undergone Japanese language training.

After 33 tranches in four years, just about 28.6 tonnes of gold has been bought by investors through the SGB scheme.

Till a few years back, the own damage share in motor premium used to be 60 per cent and third party, 40 per cent. However, the share of third party (TP) premium has since gone up to 52.7 per cent in 2016-17, 55 per cent in 2017-18 and further up 59 per cent in 2018-19, data from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (irdai) shows.

TCIL has signed an agreement with AlixPartners, Thomas Cook UK’s appointed Special Managers in this regard.

According to P. R. Somasunda-ram, Managing Director, India, World Gold Council, the trade had enough stocks in the run up to the festive season. Hence the imports were lower during the previous months as well as in October.

The country imported 71 tonnes of gold in November, compared with 40 tonnes in October, reports quoting government officials said.

The salary growth in India is expected to be 9.2 per cent in 2020. At the fag end of last year, Korn Ferry had predicted 10 per cent salary growth for 2019. However, the inflation-adjusted real wage rise for India will remain at 5 per cent this year as well.

Among the high growth countries, Egypt’s salaries are expected to increase by 13.5 per cent and a 6.6 per cent real-wage increase.

The insurance industry would need to have free access to the data generated by multiple sources including telematics, on-board diagnostic (OBD) devices, and adaptive cruise control (ACC) fill this void by monitoring vehicles in real-time through the use of sensors.
