Alliance with SP will not help Cong in UP: Mayawati

Accusing Akhilesh Yadav government of shielding criminals and communal forces, BSP chief Mayawati today said Congress' attempted tie-up with ruling Samajwadi Party showed its political bankruptcy and will be inimical to party which is "running on oxygen support" in Uttar Pradesh.

She alleged that Congress was kowtowing to Samajwadi Party by accepting "tainted" Akhilesh Yadav as the chief ministerial candiate and claimed several Congress leaders have come to BSP after talks for an alliance between the two parties for the upcoming Assembly polls.

Mulayam aide joins BSP, slams Akhilesh

In a setback to Samajwadi Party, Mulayam Singh Yadav's aide Ambika Chaudhary today joined the BSP, saying he was saddened by the way the SP patriarch was treated by his son and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Chaudhary, who joined the BSP in the presence of party chief Mayawati, has been promised a party ticket from his traditional Phephna seat in Ballia which he had lost in the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

Shivpal finds place in Akhilesh Yadav's first list

Shivpal Yadav, the warring uncle of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, along with controversial UP minister Azam Khan has made it to the first list of 191 Samajwadi Party candidates released today for the Assembly elections.

The ruling party's first list of candidates covers the first three phases of the seven-phase polling beginning on February 11.

Shivpal Yadav will contest the elections from Jaswantnagar, the constituency sought for him by SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Will choose Akhilesh over Mulayam: NCP

NCP will choose Akhilesh Yadav's "original Samajwadi Party" over his father Mulayam Singh, as it seeks to be a part of the proposed grand alliance in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh.

NCP General Secretary Tariq Anwar said the "good image" of UP Chief Minister will greatly help the proposed grand alliance to defeat the BJP.

"The image of Akhilesh Yadav will greatly help the grand alliance. People have accepted him as the face of the party," Anwar said.

Kejriwal's programmes are flop show in Punjab: BJP

BJP today claimed that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal's programmes in Punjab have turned into a flop show as his party has lost people's faith.

BJP state spokesperson Rajat Kumar Mohendru said Arvind Kejriwal's programme in Jalandhar was a flop show. People have lost faith in AAP that is why only 100-150 people were attending the party's preogramme.

Pondy BJP scoffs at Congress' criticism of functioning of Bedi

The Puducherry unit of BJP today scoffed at the criticisms made against the functioning of Lt Governor Kiran Bedi, by the ruling Congress here.

President of the local BJP, V Saminathan told PTI today that he had apprised the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh of the "Excellent work" Kiran Bedi has been doing in Puducherry to ensure a clean administration and to achieve "prosperous Puducherry."

He also said the Congress' demand to the Centre to rein in the Lt Governor "is only an infructuous exercise."

Mulayam, son race against time to muster majority support

With all attempts at brokering peace in the ruling SP having come to naught, rival factions led by Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son Akhilesh were today racing against time to enlist support of party MPs, MLAs and delegates to prove majority before the Election Commission.
