The Sensex was trading 258.60 points, or 0.68 per cent, higher at 38,365.47.

After opening on a negative note, the 30-share BSE Sensex swung between a high of 38,310.93 and a low of 37,957.56, before settling at 38,106.87, showing a decline of 198.54 points or 0.52 per cent.

Yes Bank shares crashed over 24 per cent on Tuesday, a fifth consecutive session of fall. Other major laggards were IndusInd Bank, SBI, Bharti Airtel, ONGC, Tata Steel and TCS.

The broader Nifty was up 69.30 points or 0.60 per cent at 11,543.75 in opening trade.

On the Sensex chart, Yes Bank was the biggest loser with over 15 per cent drop.

Sensex was gripped by volatility as the trade progressed and dived 310.80 points or 0.80 points to trade at 38,511.77 in early deals.

Yes Bank, IndusInd Bank, Tata Steel, Sun Pharma, Vedanta and Tata Motors were among the top losers on the Sensex chart.

Markets are expected to consolidate further with the bias on the positive side. We feel the upcoming RBI monetary policy review meet could trigger the next directional move, said Ajit Mishra, Vice President, Research, Religare Broking Ltd.
