Sensex rallies 220 points to reclaim 40,000 mark; SBI spurts 3 pc

After hitting a high of 40,178.12, the 30-share index ended 220.03 points, or 0.55 per cent, higher at 40,051.87.

The scrip of India's largest private airline, IndiGo, climbed 5.36 per cent to Rs 1,485.95 on the BSE.

After reclaiming 40,000 mark Sensex rises over 250 points

The broader NSE Nifty advanced 35.85 points, or 0.30 per cent, to 11,822.70.

Other major gainers were Tata Steel, Yes bank, Axis Bank, Maruti Suzuki, Tech Mahindra and TCS -- rising as much as 7.09 per cent.
Sensex vaults 582 points; Tata Motors zooms 16 pc

The 30-share Sensex soared over 666 points before settling 581.64 points, or 1.48 per cent, higher at 39,831.84.

Tata Motors was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rallying over 13 per cent, after the company posted strong quarterly results.

ICICI Bank witnessed an improvement in asset quality as gross non performing assets (NPAs) fell to 6.37 per cent of the gross advances by the end of September 2019, from 8.54 per cent a year ago.

The ICICI Bank scrip rose 1.95 per cent to Rs 478.60 -- its 52-week high -- on the BSE.

On the other hand, Bharti Airtel, Yes Bank, Kotak Bank, HUL, NTPC, Asian Paints, PowerGrid and SBI fell up to 4 per cent.

RIL rose over 1 per cent Tata Steel, M&M, Vedanta, TCS and Maruti too advanced up to 3 per cent.

Yes Bank was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, followed by SBI which rallied 7.19 per cent after the lender reported a nearly six-fold jump in its consolidated net profit for the second quarter ended September.

The 30-share Sensex swung over 523 points before settling 37.67 points, or 0.10 per cent, higher at 39,058.06.

SBI, Infosys, ICICI Bank, Tata Steel, Asian Paints, HDFC Bank and Maruti too gained up to 2 per cent.
