Kirloskar lines up Rs 630 cr

Kirloskar Oil Engines, one of the leading diesel engine and genset manufacturers, is scaling up production volumes to meet the market demand with a total investment of Rs 630 crore. “We are scaling up production volumes from the present 200,000 engines to 400,000 annually within two-three years to meet the Indian and overseas markets,” Atul Kirloskar, chairman and managing director, Kirloskar Oil Engines, said.

The Kagal manufacturing plant is one of the most modern plants in the diesel engine industry in off-highway application, designed on the principal of lean manufacturing with a total investment of Rs 500 crore, said Kirloskar.

The plant has a capacity to manufacture over 200,000 engines per annum ranging from 4hp to 120hp. It also has a dedicated unit for producing silent gensets with an installed capacity of 12,000 units per annum.

“Ours is the first Indian company to introduce engines that are powder coated and have better corrosion resistance and aesthetics,” RR Deshpande, executive director, Kirloskar Oil Engines, said.

The company has four manufacturing plants at Pune, Kagal-Kolhapur, Na-shik and Rajkot, employing 3,300 staff. The engine production would scale up to 400,000 units in the next three years, officials said.

For the company, more than 10 per cent of the total turnover of Rs 2,100 crore came from exports, Kirloskar said. Kirloskar said the company was ramping up production volumes at its Khadki-Pune plant with Rs 100 crore investments, especially in installing modern production technology.
