into a license and technology transfer agreement with Nooter/Eriksen (NE) of USA for the design, manufacture and sale of a heat recovery steam generator. The agreement, signed late on Wednesday, covers India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The 15-year agreement grants licenses and transfers HRSG technology to BGR Energy and this includes the transfer of know-how, technical information and training. NE, a global leader in HRSG segment, will provide marketing, sales and technical support to BGR Energy on a continuous basis during the agreement period, a BGR Energy statement said.

“With increased findings of gas reserves in the KG Basin, more gas-based power projects are expected to come up in the region, as well as in the country. We ourselves have bagged four gas-based combined cycle power projects so far. After looking at several players, we are happy and lucky to join hands with the global leader in HRSG,” BG Raghupathy, CMD, BGR Energy told a press conference on Thursday. BGR will set up an additional facility for HRSG equipment at its existing factory at Panjetty near Chennai. It will invest around Rs 40 crore in the new facility. “The plant will start commercial production in about six months,” Raghupathy said. The HRSG business is likely to add another Rs 200 crore to the company’s revenue every year.

“BGR Energy will be our strategic partner in the Indian market,” said Donald H Lange, president, NE. According to him, the 22-year old company that achieved revenues in excess of $600 milliion in year 2009, has a strong presence across Asian market.
