clippings of police action from the spot of the ongoing standoff with terrorists in some prominent South Mumbai locations.

In an order issued under Section 19 of the Cable Television Networks (regulation) Act, deputy commissioner of police (enforcement) Sheela Sail said the continued live coverage of the police operation on television has caused operational difficulties in police action against the terrorists and endangered the lives of police personnel as well as the people being held hostage by the terrorists.

The Section 19 of the Cable Television Networks (regulation) Act empowers authorised officers to prohibit transmission of certain programmes which are not in conformity with the prescribed programme code and if it is likely to disturb public tranquility.

The police also said that the incidences of firing by terrorists and bomb blasts have created an atmosphere of fear and panic in the minds of people, and the live TV coverage is only vitiating the atmosphere.
