Recreating the magic of mosaic

Let's start with porcelain mosaics. A Piccolo mosaic enlarges the perception of space and is grooved in to fill the most desired need of the architectural fraternity. A good palette of colours and textures can create stunning visual effects covering your architectural needs in the house. “Mixing of two or more sizes does not change the joint gap between the mosaics. As a result, this trend setting concept is gaining popularity worldwide and is already a part of lifestyle in developed markets,” said Amit Juvekar, general manager, marketing, Italia Group.
Glass mosaics are also a great building material for the interior designer in you. Glass mosaics have real broad spectrum of applications due to their impervious nature and have no shrinking or expansion issues, making them suitable for indoor as well as outdoor usage.
“Residential flooring, walls, pillars and columns, artwork, furniture, bathrooms, kitchens and swimming pools — glass mosaics can be used everywhere. You can get customised pieces of these mosaics in less than a week’s time. The luxury of crystal glass mosaic, metallic glass mosaic and stone glass mosaic make them a very popular choice in the West,” said Ravinder Jain of New Delhi-based Home Decorations.
Mosaic tiles should be selected according to location. In bathrooms and showers, mosaic tiles featuring fish, stars and bubbles with blue hues can be used. However, in kitchens tiles would be limited to decorating the walls in between the kitchen cupboards.
“Many clients prefer scenes which are topical like kitchen-related items such as food, vegetables and fruits. But when it comes to walls, bright colour combinations with no specific theme are prevalent,” said Prasanto Roy of Kolkata-based Interioresting. Mosaic tiles go well with walls rather than a long corridor. Try patios or courtyards.
