Trivitron eyes bio-medical services for growth

Chennai-based medical technology solutions provider Trivitron Healthcare will develop bio-medical engineering services as a new business vertical by taking up outsourced work from hospitals.

The company which has been providing medical technology products to healthcare institutions, will now offer maintenance and quality control services to not only its customers but to other healthcare institutions too. “Regular maintenance is very crucial for medical technology products. Till now we have been offering customer service to our clients only. We have decided to develop this as one of three business verticals of the company and take up the outsourced bio-medical engineering services of hospitals,” said G S K Velu, managing director of Trivitron Group.

Trivitron till now has installed over 5,000 technology products in various healthcare institutions. It has 150 engineers to provide support services to its clients. The company has also appointed a new head for the business – P Periya Nayagam as general manager, customer services. Periya Nayagam has been with the customer service wing of Philips Healthcare for the past 24 years.

“In the western world, as well as countries like Singapore and Malaysia, hospitals outsource the maintenance and related services to ensure quality and accuracy of the technology products. In India, however, the concept has not evolved,” he said.

Trivitron hopes bio-medical engineering outsourcing to contribute 10 per cent to its revenue next year. By 2012-13, the contribution from this vertical should go up to 20 to 25 per cent. In manufacturing business, third major construction at the Trivitron medical technology park near Chennai will commence soon.
