Tieto to recruit 4,000 over two years

Tieto India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Euro 1.8 billion Tieto Corporation, will open a new delivery centre in Bangalore on Thursday as part of the its plans to increase its India headcount to 4,000 in two years, a top official said.

Tieto India at present employs 1,200 staff in its units in Pune and Hyderabad and focuses on telecom and media, R&D services, healthcare and financial services verticals. It entered the Indian market through the acquisition of a healthcare-focused IT firm in Pune in 2005.

“India is one of Tieto’s main global delivery centres and the company plans to add 2,800 IT professional recruits within two years in Bangalore and Pune,” said Rajat Chauhan, country manager, Tieto India.

He said the company was launching the delivery centre in Bangalore on Thursday with 200 staff, which will be increase to 500 shortly.

According to Tieto, India is the second largest telecom economy in the world after China. “There was also growth potential in automotive and media, entertainment convergence and the company would provide R&D services in these areas too from India,” he added.

The company seeks increased business from media firms, operators of telecom networks, telecom equipment manufacturers and mobile device manufacturers. The company is also positioning itself to cater to automotive, telecom, banking and healthcare sectors both in India and its parent’s global customer base. “We have a strategic investment plan in place as we are almost tripling the staff within two years from the present 1,200 employees,” he said.
