Zenith watches to hit all metros

Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH) plans to expand Swiss luxury watch brand Zenith to all the top metros in India. It had launched Zenith at Johnson Watches, a multi brand retail outlet in New Delhi.

Zenith is a 144 years old brand and is known for being a ‘manufacturer brand’ — in which every single component of the watch is made in-house. The brand is also reputed for introducing its ‘El Primero’ movement in the chronograph watches. The ‘El Primero’ concept offers watches that measure one tenth of a second. Various luxury watch brands such as Tag Heuer, Hublot buy ‘El Primero’ technology from Zenith to use as a component in their chronographs.

“Zenith range of watches are among the top watch brands in the world and we plan to make them available across metros in India,” said LVMH India, general manager (watches and jewellery), Manishi Sanwal.

Zenith range starts with a price tag of Rs 2 lakh with the top most models going for about Rs 4 crore. The company initially plans to sell Rs 5 to 15 lakh price range watches in the country. Its high-end watch worth Rs 96 lakh is available here merely for exhibition purpose.

Sanwal explained that the top most models too would be available to Indian customers but only on demand. “It is not that there are no buyers for the top model watches. But we want to go step by step. If there is demand, we would be glad to make it available,” Sanwal added.

The company will be retailing Zenith range at select outlets in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Kolkata. Explaining the key features of the Zenith range, Sanwal said, “These watches are masculine in flavour and target the rich and successful consumer. This product is not essentially for the younger lot. It is very sophisticated and fairly high end.”

He added: “ we expect the potential buyers to be big corporate and entrepreneurs and not so much the individual celebrities.”
