to represent 62 suspended workers at Manesar with the company’s management. The management has agreed to take back 18 trainees who figured in the list of suspended workers while not budging on others.

MUKU representatives Kuldeep Jhanga and Pawan Kumar met Maruti Suzuki officials on Monday. “We have made it clear that we will not reinstate workers who disrupted production processes,” a Maruti Suzuki spokesman said. Meanwhile, leaders of the agitating workers at Manesar Sonu Gujjar and Shiv Kumar plan to continue dharna outside the factory premises.

Talks between MUKU and management to reinstate permanent workers are expected to continue on Tuesday even as Maruti continues to hire fresh workers.

“The company brought in 50 more experienced and ITI trained people to join production. Overall strength of people working in Manesar plant has gone up to over 1,380,” the spokesman said.

The company on Monday produced 700 units of Swift from Gurgaon and Manesar plants.

However, the strike has

increased waiting period of Swift further to seven-eight months with the company receiving an additional 18,000 bookings this month. It already has a pending order book of 90,000 units in Augustend. This may lead to cancellation in bookings and loss in sales to newly launched models such as Etios and Etios Liva diesel.
