Personal Accident Insurance Scheme will be launched first for workers in cardamom plantations and later extended to those involved in the cultivation of chillies, pepper, turmeric and ginger.

The move has been initiated by the Union ministry of commerce as a social security scheme for workers of plantation crops under the Price Stabilisation Fund Trust Scheme (PSFT).

The insurance will be handled by Cholamandalam MS General Insurance Company and cover growers in the age group of five to 80 years and workers from 14 to 80 years.

The growers of the plantations have to get enrolled as members of PSFT by paying a registration fee of Rs 100 and their workers will get an insurance coverage of Rs one lakh.
