The rupee today gained 5 paise against the dollar in early trade on capital

At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the rupee appreciated by 5 paise to 46.27 a dollar. The rupee, yesterday, ended higher by 18 paise at 46.32/33.

Forex dealers said fresh capital inflows into equities by foreign funds mainly supported the Indian rupee.

Besides, the rupee sentiment was also helped by the dollar's losses against other Asian currencies, they added.

Meanwhile, the benchmark Sensex rose by 97.64 points, or 0.60 per cent, to 16,135.99 points in opening trade.
