Rupee gains 4 paise against dollar in early trade

The rupee strengthened by 4 paise to Rs 53.12 a dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange on fresh selling of the American currency by exporters and banks.

Besides, strengthening of dollar and other currencies against the euro overseas also supported the rupee, forex dealers said.

The rupee had depreciated by 3 paise against the US currency to close at Rs 53.16 in the previous session.

Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark index Sensex fell by 64.
