The rupee today depreciated by 8 paise against the US currency in early trade

At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the rupee lost 8 paise to 46.05 a dollar. The domestic unit had closed higher by 25 paise at 45.97/98 yesterday.

Dealers said weakness in stock markets and strengthening dollar overseas weighed on the rupee sentiment.

The Bombay Stock Exchange index Sensex lost 79.20 points, or 0.48 per cent, at 16,416.85 points in early trade today.
