RCom only firm to see negative revenue growth

Reliance Communication (RCom) has been reeling under pressures including poor financial performance, high debt and regulatory issues. Adding to RCom’s woes is the fact that it is the only operator among all telecom players in the country to have seen negative revenue growth for the quarter ending March 31, 2011, according to Trai.

RCom’s gross revenue from access services for the three-month period degrew by 1.85 per cent to Rs 3,097.25 crore. Ironically, RCom also added the most number of subscribers, second only to Vodafone during the same period.

“Despite month-on-month increase in subscriber base, telecom companies continue to loose revenue due to pricing and competitive pressures” said the regional head of a major national telecom company, requesting anonymity.
