Railways record 10 per cent jump in Apr-Nov earnings

Railways today announced over 10 per cent growth in earnings between April and November

this fiscal, thanks to robust performance both in the goods and passenger segments.

"The total approximate earnings between April one and November 30,

2011 were Rs 66126.39 crore as compared to Rs 59994.24 crore during

the same period last year, registering an increase of 10.22 per cent,"

a statement issued by it said.

It said total goods earnings went up from Rs 39855.04 crore during

this period last year to Rs. 43888.10 crore this year, a hike of

10.12 per cent.

Likewise, total passenger revenue earnings during first eight months

of the financial year 2011-12 were Rs 18742.53 crore as compared

to Rs 17089.39 crore recorded during the same period last year. This

was a jump of 9.67 per cent, the statement said.

Revenue earnings from other departments amounted to Rs 1860.46 crore

during April- November, 2011 as compared to Rs 1668.15 crore during

the same period last year, which was also an increase of 11.53 per cent.

During this period, an increase of 5.24 per cent was recorded in

the approximate number of passengers travelling. This figure was

5518.68 million as compared to 5243.97 million during the same period

last year.

In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers

booked were 2777.81 million and 2740.87 million compared to 2675.21

million and 2568.76 million during the same period last year, the

statement added.
