ONGC Videsh strikes oil in Syria

ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL) on Friday reported two new oil discoveries in Syria.

its partner IPR Mediterranean Exploration have made significant new oilfield discoveries in Block-XXIV located in north-eastern part of Syria, the company said in a statement released on Friday.

The two fields are estimated to hold a total of 185 million barrels of reserves, the statement said.

The two discovered fields -- Rashid and Abu Khashab -- are located in Block-24. OVL bagged these projects in 2004. OVL has holds 60 per cent participating interest in the block.

“Plan of development has been submitted for both Rashid and Abu Khashab fields," the statement said.

The block covers an area of 1,927 sq km and exploration work is continuing. The first discovery was made during drilling Rashid-1 exploration well, and the second at Abu Khashab-1 well. The Rashid-1 well was drilled up to 1,730 metre and tested oil flow of 1,343 barrels per day. The Abu Khashab-1 well tested oil flow at 900 barrels daily.
