Odeon, UCI Cinemas tie up with Qube for digitisation

Tags: News
Odeon and UCI Cinemas, the largest cinema operator chain in Europe, have entered into a tie-up with Qube Cinema to install Qube XP-D digital cinema servers. The initiative is part of their 110-screen digitisation plan across the region. Qube Cinema is a subsidiary of Chennai-based Real Image Media Technologies, the only Indian company to compete in the international standards-compliant digital cinema market.

Qube’s digital servers have already made their presence felt in Portugal and the US, besides India. While the server is playing Disney’s Bait in digital 3D in Portugal for several weeks, it recently commenced commercial digital 3D screenings across the UK with My Bloody Valentine.

The Qube range of digital cinema products have been designed and developed indigenously and is among a handful of players globally in the DCI standards-compliant market. Over 1,200 Qube servers are already used in 16 countries across the globe.

The digitisation plan of Odeon and UCI Cinemas is in response to the significant number of digital 3D productions scheduled for release from 2009, ensuring that the audiences across Europe too can enjoy the latest films in state-of-the-art cinema technology.

“Odeon and UCI Cinemas are committed to providing the ultimate cinema experience for film fanatics. And 2009 promises to be an exciting year for 3D films. The installation of the latest technology across our cinemas will ensure that audiences Europe-wide can enjoy tomorrow’s blockbusters in the highest quality possible,” Drew Kaza, executive vice-president of Digital Development for Odeon and UCI Cinemas.

“We continue to innovate when it comes to the opportunities that digital cinemas presents to enhance the experience for the movie going public,” Nigel Dennis, head of European Business Development at Qube Cinema said.
