The company’s revenue decreased to Rs 11,962.8 crore in the quarter under review from Rs 12,128.3 crore in the year-ago quarter, it said in a regulatory statement.

NTPC chairman and managing director RS Sharma said the drop in income was due to higher fuel. “During last year we sourced LNG and gas from spot market. The average price of LNG last year was at around $22 per mmbtu while this year they have come down to $8 mmbtu. Revenue is a multiple of fuel cost.”

The company also said that one of its coal based unit located in Uttar Pradesh, which is planned to provide power to Commonwealth Games, has reached full load to produce 490 Mw of power.

With the commissioning of this unit, the total installed capacity of the company has become 31,134 Mw.

Shares of the company closed at Rs 214.25, down 1.45 per cent, on Friday on Bombay Stock Exchange.
