"Introduction of fully computerised systems in our customs offices and land stations in the north east was affected due to bad electricity and poor infrastructural connectivity," DD Ingty, Chief Commissioner Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax, North East Region, said.

This has also had an adverse effect on smooth and fast functioning of these customs stations which directly deals with trade and commerce, he said while was addressing the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Customs Act, 1962 here.

"Ninety six per cent of goods transaction are now a days cleared online using the latest Indian Customs Electronic System," Ingty said.

In the past one year, indirect tax revenue of the North East was Rs 4100 crore, out of which the customs contributed about Rs 60 crore of revenue.

Customs in the North East covers an area of 2.55 lakh sq km bounded by 1640 km Indo-Myanmar border, 1,500 km Indo- Bangladesh border, 1,000 km Indo-China border and 1,100 km Indo-Bhutan border.
