JSW Steel today reported 5.43 per cent growth in crude steel production at 10.68 lakh tonnes (LT) in May over the same month last year.

The Sajjan Jindal-led steel maker had produced 10.13 LT steel in May last year, it said in a statement.

Production of flat products grew by 2 per cent to 8.25 LT from 8.06 LT a year ago.

Long products' production increased by 7 per cent to 1.81 LT from 1.68 LT in May, 2013.

Flat steel products are used in industries such as auto and consumer durables; while long steel products like TMT bars and angles are used in the construction sector.
