IIM-C, IIM-S too hike fee by over 50%

Taking a cue from Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) and Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A), the two IIMs in the eastern and north eastern region — IIM Calcutta (IIM-C) and Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management Shillong (RGIIMS) — also decided to hike their fees by 50 per cent and more than 110 per cent, respectively. IIM-A and IIM-B had recently raised their course fees to Rs 13.7 lakh and Rs 13 lakh, respectively.

While the IIM-C on Saturday decided to hike its fees from Rs 9 lakh to Rs 13.5 lakh from the present session, RGIIMS decided to raise it from Rs 3.8 lakh to Rs 8 lakh at one go.

While the increased fees at IIM-C will now match those of IIMs in Ahmedabad and Bangalore, RGIIMS, the youngest of the lot, has still a long way to go.

IIM-C board of governors chairman Ajit Balakrishnan justified the fee hike. He said, “It will help meeting the increasing expenditure for infrastructure, greater faculty allocation and spending for research-related activities.” It may be recalled that IIM-C had already announced its plans to build a new 3 lakh sq ft building within its premises.
