Hitachi’s acquisition a boost for Trivitron biz

Hitachi Medical Corporation’s acquisition of Japanese medical technology company Aloka will help Chennai-based Trivitron Healthcare secure access to a bigger market of high-end medical imaging products.

Trivitron had entered into a JV with Aloka — Aloka Trivitron Medical Technologies — to make ultrasound scanners and colour dopplers at the Trivitron Medical Technology Park in Chennai. Under the JV, Aloka was to put in the technology and Trivitron to provide its distribution and marketing network. The JV has also brought out portable black and white ultrasound scanner in the market.

“With Hitachi taking over Aloka, the JV has become Hitachi Aloka Trivitron Medical Technologies. Our market has also grown bigger as Hitachi will be utilising our distribution network for its high-end products,” said a Trivitron official. In the Rs 2,500 crore medical imaging market, Trivitron operates in the Rs 500 crore segment of X-rays and ultrasound scanners.
