increased hiring in sectors such as oil, gas, media and entertainment, says Monster.Com. Job portal Monster.Com's employment index rose to 122 in June as compared to 112 in the year-ago period.

"The Monster Employment Index India indicates greater business confidence in large sectors like, IT, oil/gas, media and entertainment, fuelling growth," Monster.Com's Managing Director (India/Middle East/ South East Asia) Sanjay Modi said in a statement.

"This positive trend in annual growth is encouraging despite notably reduced opportunities in production and manufacturing," he added.

The index is an indicator of monthly online demand for jobs.

As per the index, oil/gas/petroleum and power sectors as well as media and entertainment segments saw an annual growth of 32 per cent last month compared to same period a year ago.

"Among major metro-markets, Mumbai (up 13 per cent) followed by Bangalore (up 10 per cent), registered the most rapid rise in online job opportunities year-on-year.

"Smaller cities like Coimbatore (up 29 per cent); Kochi (up 25 per cent), Baroda (up 18 per cent) continued to lead the index in terms of annual growth," the statement said.
