GoAir adds 4 new destinations
Aug 30 2010 , New Delhi
“We have evaluated all the routes before zeroing on these four which are the topmost in terms of profitability after Delhi and Mumbai. Also, there is no capacity being added by any other airline on the Leh and Pune routes, which would make these routes even more profitable,” GoAir CEO Kaushik Khona said.
On the expansion plans, he said the carrier is focusing on north India, with almost one-third of its flights originating from Delhi. It will add 10 new Airbus 320 aircraft by March 2013.
The company, which has a market share of over 5 per cent, is aiming to garner over 7 per cent share in the next three months. “In 2009 we just had 2.9 per cent market share which has reached 5.8-5.9 per cent now. With new aircraft and destinations, we see a 1.5 per cent increase in our market share in the next three months,” he said.
The carrier will take another three years before it starts global operations. “We do not have the requisite number of aircraft to start international flights. As per our current order, we would meet the criteria only in 2014. We are trying to negotiate with Airbus to deliver the order by 2013,” Khona said. After October, the airline will talk to international carriers for code-sharing agreements.
“First, we will get the membership of International Air Transport Association. After that, we would look at having code-sharing agreements with foreign carriers,” Khona said.
Khona said the buzz that the carrier is planning to tie up with another airline was a rumour. “There are no funding issues with GoAir right now,” he said.
