“The fashion week will be a great opportunity for designers across the globe to come in cultural unanimity and do some serious business here. It will be a great business opportunity for Indian exporters and international designers, too” said Sanjay Kapur, managing director, Riya Communications, which is organising Oxybleach India International Fashion Week ’09.
The fashion event will feature the works of 12 top designers. The organisers of the event have also inked partnership agreements with the organisers of Couture Fashion Week, New York, and NOVA Fashion Week, Virginia, to exchange industry professionals, including designers and models, during their respective events.
Kapur who is also an adviser to the NOVA fashion week, said the event in Delhi would be quite unlike other fashion weeks, as it aims to extend a hand of friendship to global designers and explore opportunities of working with them. “Our motive is to invite them here. We are exploring the possibilities of working with these global designers on reciprocal basis by offering shelf-area to each other in their respective country’s outlets,” said Kapur.
The event will also give domestic buyers an opportunity to know the latest fashion trends and forecasts and establish new business opportunities in India. “Another possibility could be setting up the production base of these international designers in India. It provides an opportunity to exporters who can deliver international quality products at competitive prices thereby reducing the cost of producing a finished designer garment. In the process, our businessmen can help designers to market their collections at affordable prices and still attain decent profit margins. Many international designers are open to this idea,” Kapur added.
The designers for the Oxybleach International fashion week have been selected from various countries including the US, Tanzania, Spain, Israel, China, Peru, Australia, Pakistan, Norway, Dubai and India. Kapur plans to include some young designers along with the eminent ones during the next event. “But the aim still remains the same — to get the right people for the show.”
