EC seeks report on Rahul entering Amethi booth in Amethi

The election commission on Thursday said it had sought detailed factual reports after allegations that AICC VP Rahul Gandhi had violated the model code of conduct by entering polling booths in Amethi on Wednesday.

Chief election commissioner VS Sampath told reporters: “The EC sought reports on the allegation that Rahul Gandhi violated the model code by going to polling areas in booths in Amethi.” He added: “It’s a matter of fact (that Rahul was) seen at an EVM in a polling station. We have asked for a factual report, As soon as it is received, further action will be taken.”

The CEC will be examined vis-à-vis the law (Representation of the People Act). “In this case, relating to violation of secrecy and voting, are covered by law. We will examine (it) with reference to the law and take action,” he said.
