Germany-based maker of medical devices B. Braun would be making an incremental investment of Rs.45 crore in Andhra Pradesh (AP) through a public private partnership (PPP) project over next seven years.

The company’s India subsidiary will partner the Government of AP for running and managing 11 hemodialysis centers within their medical colleges and hospitals with 111 units of hemodialysis machines used for treating kidney disorders.

“Eight centres with 85 machines are operational as of now. Upto March 13, we have registered over 350 patients and have performed over 7,500 medical treatments,” Lam Chee Hong, managing director (Asia Pacific), said. Three additional centres would be commissioned in April, he added.

The scheme is a part of AP Govt.’s Arogyasri scheme meant to provide medical services at affordable rates for the poor. “We plan to provide treatment to a thousand patients for chronic kidney diseases once we get the 11 centres up and running. The state government has promised to pay Rs.1080 per treatment provided by us,” Hong claimed.

B. Braun is also in talks with other state governments to provide the service in other parts of the country. The company will follow the PPP model to set up all its projects, Hong said.

B. Braun had clocked sales of about 3.8 billion euros globally in 2008. The company employs over 350 people in its Chennai plant.
