Alstom-Bharat Forge expects to sign contracts worth Rs 8,000 crore with central power utility, NTPC, to supply 660 mw supercritical turbine generator sets over the next two months.
The company is also vying for the forthcoming Rs 25,000 crore bulk tender contracts of NTPC to supply supercritical turbine generators sets of 800 mw each, Bharat Forge chairman and managing director, Baba Kalyani, said on sidelines of India Economic Summit in New Delhi.
“We expect to sign contracts to supply 660 mw turbine generator sets to five of NTPC units in couple of months. The final deliberations are on,” Kalyani said.
Alstom-Bharat Forge joint venture last month outbid Bhel-Siemens and Toshiba-JSW combine to bag turbine generator contracts for five of 11 660-mw units of NTPC and Damodar Valley Corporation. Alstom-Bharat Forge had placed a winning bid of Rs 9,500 crore to supply turbine generators.
NTPC is awaiting clearance from cabinet committee on economic affairs (CCEA) to float Rs 20,000 crore tenders seeking supply of energy-efficient supercritical boilers and turbine-generator sets for nine 800-mw units at Kudgi in Karnataka, Darlapalli in Orissa and Lara in Chhattisgarh. Bharat Forge, JSW Energy, GB Engineering, BGR Energy and Cethar Vessels are likely to bid for 800 mw equipment supply contracts expected in the next three months.
Kalyani said Bharat Forge-Alstom was also looking at bagging orders from independent private players setting up projects in India. Government expects to add 62,000 mw by 2012.
Bharat Forge-Alstom combine is setting up a manufacturing unit at Mundra in Gujarat.
The manufacturing unit will have a capacity of 5,000 mw and will initially manufacture 300-500 mw sub-critical and supercritical equipment.
The joint venture will also explore manufacturing of turbines and generator sets for nuclear and gas-based projects.
