Ducati, the Italian iconic racing motorcycle maker, has introduced the new Scrambler Desert Sled off-road bike in the country with prices starting at Rs 9.32 lakh at Delhi showroom.
The Ducati Scrambler is already available in a number of flavours, the company has given for the Scrambler Desert Sled a serious overhaul with a modified and strengthened chassis, higher-spec long-travel suspension and an accompanying jump in ground clearance.
All these combined features make the machine a far more capable motorcycle off-road than its standard siblings.
Drawing its inspiration from the off-road bikes of the 1960s and 1970s that made US motorcycling, history in the mountains and deserts of California, the Scrambler Desert Sled offers a different style, the company has claimed.
Equipped with a 6-speed gearbox, the Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled is powered by a Euro 4-compliant version of the 803 cubic cm air and air-cooled engine that delivers 75 PS and a torque of 68 Nm as before but gains fresh engine calibration that is claimed to smooth out power delivery at lower revs.
The modified frame and suspension, high mudguards (specially designed for this version), type-approved headlight mesh guard and engine skid plate lend to the off-road capability of the Scrambler Desert Sled.
The new bike is the natural evolution of the Urban Enduro version towards a more functional off-road style. It is also characterised by a new riding position thanks to the full 200 mm extended travel on the front and rear suspension, higher seat (a 20 mm low seat option is available as an accessory) and off-road style foot pegs with removable rubber pads.
“We have introduced for the first time in India, a motorcycle in the ‘easy off-road’ category,” Sergi Canovas Garriga, managing director at Ducati India, said.
Staying true to the Scrambler family and inspiration from the '60s and '70s, California motorcycle scene, the Desert Sled reinforces the pure essence of motorcycling: two wheels, wide handlebars, a straightforward engine and endless fun, he said.
“The bike is perfect for the city and to get off the tarmac and explore the road less travelled,” Garriaga said.
The Desert Sled is available in two colours ‘Red Dusk’ and ‘White Mirage’ and priced at Rs 9.32 lakh and Rs 9.45 lakh respectively. Bookings are open and deliveries will commence within a week.
