Tata Motors, India’s biggest automaker by revenues, on We-dnesday introduced its first ever cross-hatch cal-led Tiago NRG ahead of the festive season to aggressively woo buyers. Wi-th an introduction price of Rs 5.49 lakh for the petrol and Rs 6.31 lakh for the diesel at Delhi showroom, this SUV inspired Tata Tiago NRG will rival the Ford Freestyle and Maruti Celerio X.
Calling it a Urban Toughroader, Tiago NRG is largely identical to the standard hatchback but features a full body kit in a contrasting black shade, aimed at adding a bit of SUV flavour to the package. The body kit consists of front- and rear-bumper add-ons with faux brush-ed-aluminium scuff plates, along with additional trim pieces on the running boards and wheel arches.
A big difference between the NRG and the standard Tiago is the raised ride height. The Tiago NRG cross-hatch boasts 180mm of ground clearance, as opposed to the 170mm seen in the standard car. It is marginally longer, wider and taller than the standard hatchback as well, but that is due to the addition of exterior elements. “In line with our brand promise ‘Connecting Aspirations’, we want to be in sync with the growing trend of bringing to market more SUV like vehicles,” Guenter Butschek, CEO at Tata Motors, said.
To meet this aspiration, the Mumbai-based auto major has introduced the Tiago NRG as its ‘Urban Toughroader’. “With this launch, we are extending the Tiago brand and increasing our presence by entering into newer segments and tapping new sets of buyers. This launch is a step towards our Turnaround 2.0 journey, as we continue to focus on ‘winning sustainably’ in the passenger vehicle business,” Butschek said.
