environment and enhance family harmony by following some energy balancing tips. We spoke to some Feng Shui masters on how to balance the Chi in your child’s room.

“Often parents are not aware that there is some negative energy in their house that could be affecting their child’s behaviour, health and performance at school. And they keep wondering what could be wrong with the child,” says interior designer Poornima Sinha.

Experts believe that any negative energy can be corrected by using Feng Shui techniques that rely on ancient Chinese wisdom and modern day science. Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics that is believed to use the laws of both Heaven and Earth to help one improve life by receiving positive energy. Feng Shui literally means wind-water.

Feng Shui expert Mohan Deep gives tips for the child’s bedroom: The bed should have a solid headboard and footboard (no slats). The headboard should be placed against a solid wall and the footboard should rise a couple of inches above the mattress. A bed should not be of low height and should also not be placed in front of the door. There should be no live plants or mirror (not even on closet doors) in the bedroom. It should be simple and quiet and should have photographs of children only.

Sleeping directions are equally important. “The top of the bed should be pointed towards the direction of a good compass. “If it doesn’t, children may face problems at school,” says Sinha. It’s advisable to have a room that is dark at night. Any light can create sleep disorders and mood swings. It is also important to get small sized furniture for their room. Children don’t like adult furniture.

A child’s room should give it a sense of safety and cosiness. Some Feng Shui experts say keeping the bed against the wall gives a secure feeling. Also, the light switch should be placed according to their height. It’s advisable to keep the kid’s room uncluttered. Have sufficient storage space to keep the room organised. It is important to get positivity from the surroundings. Bright colours should be avoided for the same reason.

Overall, your child’s room should be such that it creates calmness in him/her, keeping the right energy level intact.
