The aim of study by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Eastern Region and consultancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers was to identify the 'skill set' of those to be recruited in 2015 and to identify and analyse the functional and behavioural skill set gap perceived by industry representatives.
Among the 8-fold recommendations, the report emphasised the need to increase the number of polytechnics and ITIs in the state, particularly in the districts with high concentration of industries.
It also stressed the need to identify the prevalent industries in the districts and open institutes to cater to their needs, redesigning of the course curriculum, improved infrastructure of institutes to deliver quality education and institutes to provide certification course to increase employability of graduates.
Referring to qualitative skill gaps, which has been divided into two major parts -- functional skill gaps and behavioural skill gap, the study said there was the need to introduce new specialised courses to suit the particular requirement of sectors.
