Solix looks to snap up govt deals

“Government departments collect and handle a large amount of data. We see a tremendous opportunity and consider them as major potential clients,” Raghu Kodali, vice-president, product marketing, told Financial Chronicle.
Solix is an information technology (IT) company, specialising in the enterprise data management sector. The firm has worked with US federal agencies on the social security programme as well as the UK’s ministry of defence.
Kodali says companies and governments all over the world were grappling with issues relating to data redundancy. “Businesses want to keep records, but would like to do away with data storage applications, which are expensive and occupy space. We help organisations in retiring such redundant applications,” he explained. Kodali puts the global application retirement ma-rket at $2 billion. With companies looking for new avenues to reduce overheads, the pie is set to get larger, he said.
A significant increase in server sales during the next two years will lead to a further acceleration of data centre power, cooling and space problems, according to Gartner. “If a company has lots of data storage applications, more heat gets generated, and hence, more cooling equipment is required. This causes costs to shoot up,” Kodali said.
Solix caters to companies such as Aircel, Rediff and the Kirloskar Group in the domestic market. It has tied up with Wipro Technologies to reach a wider client base, and is in talks with other IT players for similar deals.
