Zync Cloud Z5, a new entrant into the phablet category, is an excellent buy within the price range
The popularity of the ‘phablet’ category, courtesy Samsung’s Galaxy Note, has seen a number of smaller companies try and replicate that success with cheaper alternatives. The Zync Cloud Z5 falls firmly within this category.
The device comes with a 5-inch multi-touch capacitive display. The screen is responsive and we did not notice any lags during the review. It may not be an AMOLED display, but the 800x480 pixel resolution is more than enough for viewing videos and reading content on the web.
The Cloud Z5 runs Android 4.0 and features a 1 ghz processor with 512 MB RAM. An internal memory of 4 GB is expandable to 32 GB with a memory card.
The main 8.0 megapixel camera helps click great photos while the 0.3 megapixel camera is good for videoconferencing. The 2500 mAh battery lasted for a good 3.5 hours on moderate usage.
The Cloud Z5 is a dual SIM phone (GSM + WCDMA), which in our view is its best feature. Apart from that, it comes with a GPS sensor, bluetooth, 3G among other connectivity options and weighs a mere 192 grams. Despite the numerous connectivity options, it fares well in the heat management department. It remained lukewarm on moderate usage of having multiple applications open simultaneously.
Given that Zync is still a small brand, we asked the company for more details on the service centers and warranty that comes with each device. The company offers a pickup and drop facility with one-year warranty for all its products. They have 30 operational centers and plan to increase it to 100 by the end of the next quarter.
Priced at Rs 9,490 the 5-inch dual SIM phablet has a lot going for it. Given its price point, it might even make for an excellent gift. But, it may not be long before other companies get in on the act and push prices further down.
The Cloud Z5 phablet looks like a ‘phabulous’ buy. zz
