is also expected to mentor and help top and mid-level management in leadership qualities.

The unit is now taking the experiential learning and information gathered from the IT firm’s top 750 leaders and bringing out a book. Authored by Matt Barney, head- leadership, Infosys, the book will be called Authentic Leadership at Infosys and is set for launch after April this year.

Barney told FC that his team collected evidence-based information form 1,500 Infoscians last year, which was used to develop an in-house software model to predict leadership outcomes of the company and individuals (personalised to each leader).

“We are using the learning we gathered from the top 750 people and are merging them with my original research using various theories and organisational sciences to bring out the book,” Barney said. He had earlier written a book and published research in his previous avatar as management consultant and new sigma expert.

Infosys is currently in talks with two big publishers for the book Authentic Leadership at Infosys, which will have a foreword by chief mentor N R Narayana Murthy. With about 1,000 copies to be printed initially, the tome will be made available across the globe.

Barney added that Authentic Leadership at Infosys is the first of several planned books by the institute. The Bangalore-based company has been focusing on building the next generation of non-founder leaders off-late, prompted by Murthy and Nandan Nilekani moving out of CEO positions in 2002 and 2007 respectively.

“We have identified 50 people in the tier I category, of which five are in the executive committee (Subash Dhar, Chandrashekar Kakal, Ashok Vemuri, V Balakrishnan and B G Srinivas). Another 150 are in tier II, while tier III has 350 leaders. We have developmental programmes in leadership and all of them play mentoring roles to others as well,” he said.

The company is now also planning to use methods like one-on-one mentoring and get leadership experts from global academia to have conferences in Mysore.
