The two companies have been trying to do as many activities jointly as legally possible in a bid to save costs, especially for MSAT and to ease the way for the proposed future integration, L Ravichandran, COO of TechM told FC.
The fraud-hit Satyam Computers, later renamed as Mahindra Satyam, is expected to file its restated accounts by June-end this year and any merger with TechM can happen only after that.
“We have set up joint task forces with 4-5 people including one senior person each from TechM and MSAT in areas of infrastructure, human resources and tech purchases. These groups decide on what initiatives can be done jointly,” he said.
The most recent move has been the on-going placements in engineering colleges and IIMs. “We use both company names but have common campus orientation, use same resources and training during placements. It has worked fine so far,” Ravichandran said. The companies have also recently started to make their technology purchases (IT infrastructure like laptops and software) together.
Meanwhile, TechM is planning to hire big. While it plans to give 2,500 campus offers (students will join in July/August), the telecom sector focused firm is recruiting 900 people who have passed out of engineering colleges in mid 2009 and haven’t found a job yet or whose colleges don’t have regular placements.
“To meet immediate demand, by March-end we will hire 900 freshers of the 2009 batch from tier II and III colleges who didn’t get placed last year. However the quality tests and the salary packages will be same as campus recruits,” the COO said.
The IT firm also plans to continuously hire from now on, he said, stating that 1,800-2,000 lateral people will join the company every quarter for the next few months. This is to cater to the new projects and growth seen in geographies like West Asia, Africa, APAC and Europe.
