“We are exploring the possibility of setting up a support centre in Hyderabad, which would assist our customers spread across Asia Pacific (APAC) region,” Harry Cheung, managing director – APAC, told Financial Chronicle.
“At present, we are trying to analyse if our clients would be ok interacting with our Indian staff,” he said. Russia-based Kaspersky has its India headquarters located in the city with just three people on its rolls. It is planning to add 20 people in software development roles in the next one year.
“Hyderabad has the right kind of resource pool in terms of talent and manpower to support our growth plans. We are planning to add even more people in our next phase of expansion,” he said.
Also on the cards is an India specific security product that Kaspersky would be launching soon. The product will be designed keeping in view the needs of the Indian customers and will cost less, Cheung claimed.
Kaspersky has 1.2 million users in India. The figure is expected to grow to 3 million in FY 11. The company sees the figure jumping to 15 per cent next year and to 40 per cent in FY 12.
