unions associated with Air India — have decided to stage a two-hour walkout across airports if lower grade employees do not receive their salaries on July 3. The move is expected to cause inconvenience to passengers.

The Air India management had promised to pay the salaries of lower grade employee in a meeting with the employees union last week. The unions have also withdrawn from the turnaround committee appointed by Air India consisting of management and union representatives. “This will affect baggage, cargo handling and catering services,” an ACEU member said.

When contacted, Air India, executive director —corporate communication, Jitender Bhargava said, “Air India is working towards making payments to employees in lower grades on July 3 as discussed with the unions last week.”

Bhargava said that as salary and wages are effectively done through ECS, there are formalities to be complied with. “As salaries are only going to be paid to those in lower grades on July 3 instead of July 15, the process of identification of eligible employees in various grades in various departments is taking time,” he added.
