Wipro looks to bag more state govt contracts

Having won three State Mission Mode projects for data centres (SDCs) from Maharashtra, West Bengal and Gujarat, Wipro Infotech is now hoping to win more such contracts from state governments. The unit is hoping to get some of the UID-related deals too.

Ranbir Singh, head-government vertical of Wipro said that Wipro had identified 15-18 states to focus on. This depended on requirement and clarity of projects, Wipro’s presence and ability to implement multi-year contracts in those particular regions.

Wipro has got five-year contracts from Maharashtra and West Bengal to design, build and manage data centres, while it will upgrade Gujarat’s SDC. It is estimated that deals of the data centre projects for large states would be in the range of Rs 25-50 crore while it is Rs 14-15 crore for small states.

As for UID, Singh said that the authority had given 6-7 tenders and Wipro is contesting some of them. “These include the tenders for application and development, biometrics, developing small portal for UID and call centre operations. We have decided not to contest for consulting,’’ he said.
