“We see a significant growth during this financial year in terms of sales of desktops. We have already aligned with telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and HCL to innovate locally and help accelerate high-speed wireless connectivity and computing across the country,” president and CEO for Intel, Paul S Otellini, told reporters on the sidelines of a CII conference.

Otellini said that taking advantage of the technologies, PC sales are up in 2009 compared with last year. In terms of markets, too, technologies have been growing at a faster rate in emerging markets. However, he declined to give any figures on the sales.

Commenting on some IT initiatives, minister of state for communications and IT, Sachin Pilot, said, “We want to connect rural areas with high-speed internet at affordable cost. Internet is the force that will propel India into the next decade and has the potential to connect millions more ”
