instantly convert any video signal to work on everything from a large high-definition television to a mobile-phone screen.

The Media Experience Engine 3000, a piece of hardware that connects to a network, is available now starting at $65,000, Cisco said on Monday in a statement.

The device’s language- recognition features will make speech in videos searchable by keywords and the product will also work as a live translator in video conferences, the company said.

Cisco is adding video features to its products because it expects video to dominate Internet traffic within the next four years.

The new equipment is the first in a line of products called Media Net, which may bring in $1 billion in annual sales, the company predicts. Cisco’s routers and switches manage the flow of data on the Internet and corporate networks.

Customers should expect to see “these capabilities go into all our core platforms — from our routers to our switches,” Senior Vice President Marthin de Beer said in an interview.

“People will upgrade a lot of routers to add Media Net.”

Both Internet-service providers and large corporations are likely to buy the products, de Beer said. The San Jose, California-based company plans to introduce a more powerful system than the Media Experience Engine 3000 in six months, he said.
