its Indian operations rose 19 percent in July-September from a year earlier to 1.46 mn tonnes.

Sales for the first half of the financial year that began in April rose 21 percent from a year ago to 2.88 million tonnes, the company said in a statement.

The Indian operations account for about a quarter of the group's total annual global capacity of 30 million tonnes, which includes unit Corus, Europe's second-largest steelmaker.

Sales of long products, used in construction, jumped 49 percent in April-September from a year earlier, the company said.
