He also said Tata Steel, the world's sixth largest steel maker, posted a 45 per cent annual rise in sales volume in March, matching domestic sales data released by the company last week.

Rastogi had earlier said India's steel production and demand in the year to March 2009 would likely rise 1-2 per cent from a year ago.
