GMR Airports gets sister airport in S Korea

GMR Airports Holding (GAHL) signed a `Sister Airport Agreement'' with Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) of South Korea on Tuesday.

The `Sister Airport Agreement' concept basically outlines the process for airports to share technical, commercial and environment best practices through cooperation.

A GMR news release said the agreement encompassed establishment of joint training programmes through GMR Aviation Academy and the Incheon Airport Aviation Academy, both accredited by Airports Council International (ACI) as Global Training Hubs. The agreement was signed between CW Lee, the president & chief executive officer, Incheon Airport and Kiran Kumar Grandhi, the chairman of airports, GMR group and PS Nair, chief executive officer (corporate) GMR Airports at Incheon.

Under the agreement, joint working groups will be set up to cooperate on a wide range of areas such as airport operations and management, customer services, construction, planning, operations, information technology and sustainable development.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also signed between Delhi International Airport (DIAL) and IIAC on sharing of technical expertise to improve safety under the Airport Excellence in Safety (APEX in Safety) programme of ACI.

The MoU aimed to enhance safety at IGIA and Incheon airports through exchange of expertise and best practices on airside operations, planning and safety management.
