How 'not to repeat a Singur' fiasco
Sep 30 2008
As a corporate, whether it's Tata or anyone, they have to consider all arrangement sensibly, before initiating any forward steps.Particulalry 'if any of the approvals is politically sensitive', one has to 'derisk the matter/detach from any public scrutiny' and then do the rest-with clean chit.
Next:we have mixed policies, somewhere the state requires a particular industry-but centure opposes, these vetoes are not proper.A central cabinet is there for a holistic approach, but if it comes to a particular industry-where a state has the natural advantage, all the integrated details should be handed over to the state to handle.
Then we have 'GoM'[group of ministers] to consider special files, if we have federalism, stricly we should adhere to a system what we have devised and polished-otherwise new gen entrepreneurs will loose faith in the system.
We have copied so many things from Chinese growth stories, but we forget'we have two different systems, with different criterias and different social values, what works for them >may not work for us.We dont have the land mass as 'China's >still we started SEZ-about which Lord Meghnad Desai-once described a Media Interview to become the mother of big corruptions.
So, entrepreneurs, corporate houses should voice their concern in different forums-and pressurise parliament to consider amendments which are not suitabl;e to the changing scenarios.Otherwise-we just can not propsper-as China, or even'Hongkong' and 'singapore'.
Today-we are in a globalised Century-we can not apply old mindset-old rules to manage the everchanging market led disruptions, which are sometimes unpredictable.
And 'as the old saying goes-'where there is a will-there is a way'-if we have really identified our goalPost, we have to find the most simplest way of finding the answer as well.
